Our Story Began in the Field

Mountain landscape at sunrise

frosty-quest started with a simple frustration: too many ecological consultancies were producing reports that gathered dust. Tick-box assessments that satisfied minimum requirements but did nothing for the species they documented. We knew there had to be a better way.

Founded in 2016 by a group of ecologists who'd grown tired of the disconnect between survey work and real conservation outcomes, we set out to build a consultancy that actually delivered on its recommendations. Not just identifying what's there, but ensuring it's still there—and thriving—years after the planning consent is granted.

Eight years on, that founding principle still guides everything we do. We've grown, certainly—more team members, more sectors, more sophisticated tools—but the core commitment remains unchanged. Every assessment is an opportunity to make things better, not just less bad.

What Makes Us Different

Field-First Methodology

Our ecologists spend more time outdoors than at computers. That direct observation shapes every recommendation we make.

Solutions, Not Just Problems

We don't stop at identifying constraints. We design practical mitigation that works for both your project and the wildlife.

Plain English Reporting

Our reports are written for decision-makers, not just other ecologists. Clear findings, actionable recommendations.

Long-Term Perspective

We think beyond the planning application. Our monitoring programmes track outcomes for years, not just months.

Our Approach to Every Project

We believe good ecology starts with listening—to the site, to the client, and to the regulatory context that shapes what's possible. Before we design a survey programme or draft a mitigation strategy, we take time to understand what you're trying to achieve and what the landscape is telling us.

That collaborative approach continues throughout the project. We keep you informed at every stage, flagging issues early and adjusting our approach when circumstances change. No surprises, no jargon, no unnecessary delays.

The result? Projects that move forward with confidence, backed by ecological work that planners trust and outcomes that genuinely benefit biodiversity. It's not rocket science—it's just good ecology, delivered by people who care about getting it right.
